Costume Design & Fabrication
From idea to creation, we’ll use thrift clothing, fabric and a variety of other materials to fabrication one-of-a-kind costumes. Participants should plan to come with a few idea possibilities in mind. No sewing or fabrication experience necessary. This workshop pairs well with the Carol’s Paper Mache Mask Making workshop.

Japanese Mending: Intro to Sashiko
Japan has a millennia-old tradition of mending that's beautiful, straightforward even for beginners to hand stitching, and highly practical to actually repair clothing. In this workshop, we'll talk briefly about the history and different kinds of sashiko, and then dive into how to patch (if necessary) and stitch. There will be plenty of time to practice and get started on your own project. No experience necessary!

Paper Mache Mask Making
Think outside the commercial box. Bring a character to life with what’s inside the box. And some glue and a little trash. 2 sessions: Inspiration to foundation and basic volume sculpt to finishing. There is homework.

Thrifty Witch Wear
Black layers, pointed hats, green faces, long noses, broomsticks, black caldrons! This is your chance to prep and practice your inner witchy wickedness. A pile of black thrifted clothing will be provided, along with all the accoutrements. Optional: We’ll gather on beggars night, mount our brooms and fly through town.

The Altered Book
& Visual Journaling
Come learn a fun way to repurpose old books that you no longer want to read. Learn to reuse an old book as the foundation for a visual journal. Recreate a book into a work of art that is made of several small, personal works of art. Together we will learn how to deconstruct a book and reconstruct it through collage, drawing, painting and the written word. And all the while we will be recycling materials! This is a fun and rewarding process that does not require previous art making skill or training. Participants will walk away with their very own art book, a repurposed book that will be the beginning of their personal journey into visual journaling.

Upcycling Artificial Greenery into Garlands & Wreaths
Do you have artificial greenery, flowers, berries or the like that have seen better days (or never was very high quality to begin with)? With a little ingenuity and basic skills, you can convert them into much more festive holiday decorations. We'll learn how to deconstruct existing stems or wreaths, use paint and watered glue to make leaves look more real (or more festive!), cut leaves into new shapes, and then how to use wire and floral tape to reconstruct them into stems, garlands, wreaths and and centerpieces.
